President’s Message

It is a great honour to serve as the first President and Co-Founder of the Financial Health Association of Malaysia (FAHAM). The Association was founded on the belief that financial education can transform lives by enabling people to make informed decisions and achieve sustainable economic well-being. Together with our Founder, Dr Rajna Anthony, and a committed team of academicians and professionals in the financial industry, we established FAHAM to support individuals, families, and communities across Malaysia. Our vision is to equip Malaysian consumers with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to build a secure financial future. Through education, coaching, research, advocacy, and community engagement, FAHAM aims to strengthen financial capability and resilience. We also translate research on financial health, behaviour, and well-being into programmes that address Malaysians’ needs. We welcome collaboration with government agencies, institutions, corporations, researchers, and community organisations to expand financial education and create lasting change. I invite all who share our aspirations to support FAHAM as we build a financially informed, inclusive, and resilient Malaysia – one informed decision at a time.

FOUNDER’S MESSAGE

From a Conversation to a Movement

What began as a conversation has become a movement dedicated to building financial resilience for every Malaysian.
The idea of establishing the Financial Health Association of Malaysia (FAHAM) was inspired by a simple yet thought-provoking conversation with a postgraduate student, Ms. Pri Hansini Chaskar. She observed that many people make poor financial decisions early in life and only realise their consequences in later years, when financial recovery becomes far more difficult. She expressed her hope for an association that would take such issues seriously and advocate for long-term financial well-being. She suggested the name Financial Health Association of Malaysia (FAHAM).
Her observation resonated deeply within me because it reflected what I had already discovered through my research and professional practice. My Master’s research identified significant gaps between financial attitudes and actual financial knowledge and behaviour among professionals, while my Doctoral research demonstrated that structured financial education and coaching could significantly improve financial capability, financial behaviour, and overall financial well-being. These findings reinforced my belief that financial challenges are often preventable through early intervention, evidence-based education, and continuous support.

I shared this vision with Associate Professor Dr. Husniyah Abd Rahim, my co-supervisor for my doctoral research, a respected expert in Family Economics and Resource Management and a Certified Financial Planner, who at the time, was leading a nationwide online financial coaching program funded by the Ministry of Domestic Trade. She had invited me to co-direct that initiative. Recognizing our shared vision, mission and core values, Dr. Husniyah joined me as the Co-Founder of FAHAM. Today, the Association continues to transform research into meaningful programs and collaborative initiatives.
